How To Connect To an ESXi Host with vSphere Client
Use VMware vSphere Client to log in to an ESXi host.

1. Double-click vSphere Client icon on your system.

2. Enter host name of your ESXi host.

3. Type the user name root and enter the ESXi host root password. Click Login.

4. Select the check box Install this certificate and do not display any security warnings for ?<host_name>.? Click Ignore to proceed.

5. If VMware Evaluation Notice window pops up stating when your evaluation license will expire, click OK. The vSphere Client Home page is displayed.

 

How to View Host Hardware Configuration
View the health of host hardware and processor and memory information.

1. Click Configuration tab of your ESXi host. Displayed is the hardware health status view. Expand objects in the Sensor list to view the status.

TIP: When connected to a host through VMware vCenter Server, use the Hardware Status tab to monitor host health.

2. In the Hardware list, select Preferences. View the processor model, processor speed, and other information about your ESXi host processors.

3. In Hardware list, select Memory. View total physical memory and how much memory is used by the system and by virtual machines.

View general information about the virtual machine located on your ESXi host.

1. Select your virtual machine in the inventory.

2. Click the Summary tab. View information about your virtual machine, such as the number of CPUs, amount of memory, the network it is connected to, and the datastore on which it is located in.

1. Select your ESXi host in the inventory. Click the Configuration tab.

2. In the Software panel, click the DNS and Routing link.

3. Click the Properties link.

4. In the DNS and Routing Configuration panel, enter the values below. Click OK when you are finished.

a. Enter your Domain.

b. Enter your DNS server address.

c. Enter the Default Gateway.

5. Verify that the DNS and Routing pane lists the information that you added.

 

How To Configure the ESXi Host as an NTP Client
How to configure the Network Time Protocol client on the ESXi host to synchronize its time with an NTP server.

1. Select your ESXi host in inventory. Click Configuration tab.

2. In the Software panel,, click Time Configuration to view current settings that show that the NTP client is running and that no NTP server is defined.

3. Click Properties. Time Configuration dialog box appears.

4. Click Options. Enter the values below:

a. In the General field: Accept the default and select NTP Settings.

b. In the NTP Settings field: Click Add and enter the NTP server name.

c. Restart NTP service to apply changes by selecting the check box and clicking OK.

5. Click OK to exit the Time Configuration dialog box.

6. Verify that the Time Configuration pane lists the NTP server that you added.

7. In the vSphere Client menu bar, select File>Exit to close vSphere Client.
