How to Create a Virtual Machine on an iSCSI VMFS Datastore
The following steps will show you how to create a virtual machine on a VMware vStorage VMFS datastore on iSCSI storage.
- Go to Home > Inventory > VMs and Templates.
- Right-click your VMs folder and select New Virtual Machine.
- When prompted by Create New Virtual Machine wizard, do the following:
- Choose Custom configuration. (Configuration)
- Name the new virtual machine. (Name)
- Your VMs folder is selected for you. (Inventory Location)
- Select your ESXi host. (Host Cluster)
- Select the iSCSI datastore. (Datastore)
- Select 7 for virtual machine version. (Virtual Machine Version)
- Select Linux. (Guest Operating System)
- Select Other Linux (32-bit). (Version)
- Select 1 for the number of virtual processors.
- Type 128MB for Memory.
- Select 1 for the number of NICs you want to connect.
- Select Production from drop-down menu. (NIC 1 Network)
- Keep default NIC 1 Adapter.
- Deselect check box (Connect at Power On)
- Select Do no create disk. Virtual machine will boot from a CD-ROM ISO image. (Disk)
- Select Edit the virtual machine settings before completion check box and click Continue. (Ready to Complete)
- In Hardware list, select New CD/DVD (adding).
- Select Datastore ISO File.
- Click Browse and go to repository for your ISO images.
- Click Open.
- Select ISO image named dsl.iso.
- Select the Connect at power on check box.
- Click Finish to save changes.
