How to Identify a Virtual Machine’s Disk Format and Usage Statistics

 

 

The following steps will show you how to identify the virtual machine disk (VMDK) type.

  1. Right-click your virtual machine in inventory and select Edit Settings.
  2. In Hardware list, select Hardware disk 1.
  3. Under Disk Provisioning, identify the VMDK type.
  4. Click Cancel to close Virtual Machines Properties dialog box.
  5. In the VMs folder, select your virtual machine and click Summary tab.
  6. In Resources panel, click the Refresh Storage Usage link to update Provisioned Storage and Used Storage metrics.
