How to Install VMware Tools into a Virtual Machine Installed with a Windows Operating System
How to install VMware Tools into the guest operating system.
- In the icon bar of virtual machine console window, click Connect/disconnect the CD/DVD devices of the virtual machine.
- Select CD/DVD Drive 1 > Disconnect from datastore image. Click Yes to confirm you want to disconnect device.
- Log in to guest operating system from virtual machine console:
- In menu bar of virtual machine console, select VM > Guest > Send Ctrl+Alt+Del
- Log in on the Windows login screen
- Install VMware Tools into the Windows guest operating system:
- In menu bar of virtual machine console, select VM > Guest > Install/Upgrade VMware Tools. (If the pointer is unable to move to the menu bar, press Ctrl+Alt to release pointer from virtual machine console)
- Warning message appears which you can read, and click OK.
- Click anywhere in virtual machine console window to give mouse focus to your virtual machine.
- The VMware Tools installation wizard starts. On the welcome page, click Next.
- On Setup Type page, leave Typical selected and click Next.
- Click Install to start installation. Several windows will display.
- If a window pops up saying that hardware acceleration is not enabled, click Yes and do the following steps a-c. If no window pops up, go to step 6.
- In Display properties dialog box, click Settings tab and click Advanced button.
- Click Troubleshoot tab. Drag Hardware Acceleration bar from None to Full. Click OK.
- Click OK to exit Display Properties dialog box.
- Click Finish to exit VMware Tools Installation wizard.
- Click Yes when asked to restart virtual machine.
- After virtual machine reboots, log in as user Administrator.
