SMTP Virtual Server in Exchange 2007
SMTP Virtual Server in Exchange 2003 has been replaced by Receive
Connectors in Exchange 2007. Exchange 2007 receive Connectors are
server specific and you will find it under "Server Configuration" in
"Exchange Management Console". You will only find receive connectors
on Exchange 2007 Hub Transport Server since it is responsible for mail
transport. As you may already know, all emails must go through Hub
Transport server in Exchange 2007 environment.
You will need to configure Exchange 2007 Receive Connectors when:
- Using Exchange 2007 as the relay server
- Accepting incoming messages from clients
- Listen on port other than port 25 (by default). See screenshot
- Limiting IP range that can access the Exchange Server. See screenshot
- Specify IP address it listens on. See screenshot
- Configure Authentication mechanism which includes TLS, Basic Authentication, Exchange Server authentication, Integrated Windows authentication
- Configure who is allowed to connect to the SMTP server. See Screenshot
