How to upgrade from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010
We will start with a overview steps of how to migrate from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010. This will help us understand the process from higher level.
Overview of Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010 migration
- Upgrade Exchange 2007 servers to Exchange 2007 SP2
- Upgrade AD forest and domain level to Windows Server 2003 functional or higher.
- Upgrade one GC domain controller in each AD site to Windows Server 2003 SP2
- Setup Server 2008 R2 x64 for Exchange 2010.
- Install prereqs on the server
- Run setup on Exchange 2010 server. Install CAS role first. This will upgrade the schema.
- Point client access to Exchange 2010 CAS Server (OWA, ActiveSync, etc)
- Install Exchange 2010 Hub Transport role
- Point client access to Exchange 2010 Hub Server (POP, IMAP, SMTP, etc.)
- Install Exchange 2010 mailbox role
- Move mailbox from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 using “Move Mailbox Wizard” from Exchange 2010.
- Upgrade Exchange 2003 organization to Exchange Native mode
- Upgrade All Exchange 2003 Server to Exchange SP2
