How to Use Lync Control Panel 

 

 

Search for Users

Results of a search query can be used to configure users for MS Lync 2010. You can search for users by first name, last name, display name, Security Accounts Manager (SAM) account name, SIP address, or line Uniform Resource Identifier (URI).

Search for users using the Lync Control Panel or the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in.

To search for one or more users:

1. From a user account that is assigned to the CsUserAdministrator role or the CsAdministrator role, log on to any computer in your internal deployment.

2. Open a browser window, and enter the Admin URL to open the Lync Control Panel. In the left navigation bar, click Users.

3. In the Search users box, type the first name, last name, all or the first portion of the display name, SAM account name, SIP address, or line URI of the user account that you want to search for. Click Find.

4. Specify additional search criteria to narrow the results (optional):

  • Click the expand arrow button in the upper-right corner of the screen above Search results. Click Add Filter.
  • Enter the user property by typing it or clicking the arrow in the drop-down list to select a user property.
  • In the Equal to list, click Equal to or Not equal to.
  • In the text box, type the search criteria you want to use to filter search results. Click Find.

5. Search results appear under Search Results. Select any or all of the users in the list and complete configuration tasks on the users you select.

 

 

Add a User

Use Lync Control Panel to create new MS Lync 2010 user accounts by adding an Active Directory user to Lync 2010.

 

To create a new Lync user:

1. From a user account that is assigned to the CsUserAdministrator role or the CsAdministrator role, log on to any computer in your internal deployment.

2. Open a browser window, and enter the Admin URL to open the Lync Control Panel. In the left navigation bar, click Users.

3. Click Enable users.

4. On the New Lync User dialog, click Add.

5. In the Search users box, type the first name, last name, all or the first portion of the name display name, Security Accounts Manager (SAM) account name, or phone number of the Active Directory user account that you want. Click Find.

6. In the table, select the account you want to add to Lync 2010, and click OK.

7. Assign the user to a pool, specify any additional details, and assign the policies to the user you want. Click Enable.

 

 

Enable Users

After enabling a user account in Active Directory Users and Computers, use the following procedures to enable a new user for MS Lync 2010 or disable a previously enabled user account in Lync 2010 without losing the Lync 2010 settings that you configured for the user account. Because the Lync 2010 user account settings is not lost, you can re-enable a previously enabled user account again without having to reconfigure the user account.

 

To enable a user account for Lync:

1. From a user account that is assigned to the CsUserAdministrator role or the CsAdministrator role, log on to any computer in your internal deployment.

2. Open a browser window, and then enter the Admin URL to open the Lync Control Panel. In the left navigation bar, click Users.

3. In the Search users box, type all or the first portion of the display name, first name, last name, Security Accounts Manager (SAM) account name, SIP address, or line Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) of the user account that you want to enable, and then click Find.

4. In the table, click the user account that you want to enable.

5. On the Edit menu, click Modify.

6. In Edit Lync User, select the Enabled for Lync check box, and then click Commit.

 

To disable or re-enable a previously enabled user account for Lync:

1. From a user account that is assigned to the CsUserAdministrator role or the CsAdministrator role, log on to any computer in your internal deployment.

2. Open a browser window, and then enter the Admin URL to open the Lync Control Panel. In the left navigation bar, click Users.

3. In Search users box, type all or the first portion of the display name, first name, last name, Security Accounts Manager (SAM) account name, SIP address, or line Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) of the user account that you want to disable or re-enable, and then click Find.

4. In the table, click user account that you want to disable or re-enable.

5. On Action menu, do one of the following:

  • To temporarily disable the user account for Lync 2010, click Temporarily disable for Lync.
  • To enable the user account for Lync 2010, click Re-enable for Lync.

 

 

Move User to Different Pool

You can use Lync Control Panel to assign users to a specific server or pool.

 

To move selected users to a different server or pool:

1. From a user account that is assigned to CsUserAdministrator role or CsAdministrator role, log on to any computer in your internal deployment.

2. Open a browser window, and then enter Admin URL to open the Lync Control Panel. In the left navigation bar, click Users.

3. In Search users box, type the first name, last name, all or the first portion of the display name, Security Accounts Manager (SAM) account name, SIP address, or line Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) of the user account that you want, and then click Find.

4. In the table, select a specific user or users in the list.

5. On Action menu, click Move selected users to pool.

6. In Move Users, select the pool that you want to move the users to in Destination registrar pool.

7. If destination server or pool is unavailable, select Force check box (optional).

 

To move all users from one server or pool to different server or pool:

1. From a user account that is assigned to the CsUserAdministrator role or the CsAdministrator role, log on to any computer in your internal deployment.

2. Open a browser window, and then enter Admin URL to open Lync Control Panel.

3. In left navigation bar, click Users.

4. On Action menu, click Move all users to pool.

5. In Move Users, select pool that contains user accounts that you want to move in Source registrar pool.

6. In Destination registrar pool, select pool that you want to move users to.

7. If the destination server or pool is unavailable, select Force check box (optional).
