Start Menu looks more like a tablet interface than a real computer. You will notice that icons are huge and horizontal score bar (see screenshot below) allows browsing of apps.

Windows 8 Task Manager

Task Manager in Windows 8 is a lot more sophisticated and provides a lot more information when troubleshooting issues. Task manager in Widows 8 can be accessed by typical ALT + CTRL + DEL.

Processes – This tab displays all processes that are running on Windows 8. They are categorized depending on type of processes. Applications are simply applications that are currently running. Background processes are processes running in the background that is not seen by the user. Windows processes are processes start by windows natively. Best troubleshooting information on this tab are the CPU, Memory, Disk and Network columns. This tells you which process is taking up how much amount of resources. In windows 7, there is no easy way to do this. For example, if your computer running slow, you can simply open task manager see what process or application is taking up all the resources. There are times where cpu utilization is low , yet computer is still running sluggish. In these cases, it is most likely that application is using up all IO disk resources which make it slow. This is where Windows 8 Task manager comes in and allow you to track down the application that is using all the resources.

Performance – Simple graphical chart representation of data that effects the performance of the system.

App History – this shows all your app history and how much resources each app used. This tab can be used to bench mark and measure application performance.

Users – this tab display the CPU, Memory, Disk and Network usage by user. Very helpful tool when multiple users are using the system at the same time.
