Windows 8 Account Logon Problems
When a user attempts to log on through Windows 8 and is unable to be authenticated, you need to track down the reason for the problem.
Troubleshooting Local User Account Authentication
If a user is having trouble logging on, there might be a problem with the username, the password, or the user account itself. Some common causes of local logon errors include incorrect username, incorrect password, prohibitive user rights, and a disabled or deleted account.
Incorrect Username
Verify that the username is correct by checking the Local Users and Groups utility. Check that the name was spelled correctly.
Incorrect Password
Passwords are case sensitive. Check to see if the Caps Lock key is on. If the messages relate to an expired password or locked-out account, assign a new password through the Local Users and Groups utility.Prohibitive User Rights Does the user have permission to log on locally at the computer? All users can log on to Windows 8 computers because the Log On Locally user right is granted to the Users group by default. However, if modifications were made to the user’s right, you will encounter an error message stating that the local policy of this computer does not allow interactive logon. Interactive logon and local logon just mean that the user is logging on at the computer where the user account is stored on the computer’s local database.
A Disabled or Deleted Account
Through using the Local Users and Groups utility, verify whether an account has been disabled or deleted by checking the account properties.

A Domain Account Logon at the Local Computer
If a computer is part of a domain, there are options on the logon dialog box for logging on to the domain or to the local computer. Make sure that the user has chosen the correct option. There might also be issues with logging onto the domain.
